On-Site Services

As a state-of-the-art practice specializing in pediatric and adolescent medicine, BridgeSpan Medicine offers on-site laboratory testing for a variety of needs. The three main methods of lab testing are blood, urine, and saliva samples. It is generally an easy process to submit samples.

On Site Lab Tests

Some of the lab tests available at our practice look for:

  • Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes
  • High cholesterol
  • Sexually transmitted diseases: HIV, chlamydia, gonorrhea, herpes, and others
  • Nutritional deficiency
  • Kidney malfunction
  • Electrolyte imbalance
  • Strep throat
  • Flu
  • COVID-19
  • Mononucleosis
  • Lyme disease

Your child’s doctor may recommend a basic metabolic panel, a laboratory test that checks several things at one time. Laboratory testing is often an integral part of the diagnostic process, which is why BridgeSpan Medicine offers a full range of tests on-site.

Adolescents Routine Laboratory Testing

Adolescents and young adults don’t generally need routine laboratory testing as often as older adults, but there are still times when it is necessary. Your child may need laboratory testing if their doctor suspects an underlying health problem is causing their symptoms or issues.

For example, if your child is overweight and mainly inactive, they have an increased chance of developing Type 2 diabetes, so their provider may perform lab testing to check blood sugar levels.

Your child’s BridgeSpan Medicine doctor can do laboratory testing on-site during their physical exam or sick visit, if needed.

Before your child’s lab test, the BridgeSpan Medicine team will tell you if they need to do anything special to prepare. For some kinds of lab tests, like a basic metabolic panel, your child will need to fast (not eat or drink) starting the night before their appointment.

Your child’s doctor may also recommend making some temporary medication changes before the laboratory test, as certain medications can interfere with clear test results.

If your child is having a urine test, they shouldn’t urinate ahead of their appointment. Although they do not need a completely full bladder, they need to urinate enough to fill a small sample cup.
